The Work Sampling System is a criterion-referenced observational assessment with extensive research supporting reliability and validity.

WSS provides an overview, explains each element of the system, gives step-by-step procedures, and offers practical suggestions. 

  • Seven major curriculum areas: personal and social development; language and literacy; mathematical thinking; scientific thinking; social studies; the arts; and physical development, health and safety.
  • Two kits available: Complete Classroom Implementation Kit (P3, P4, K through Grade 3) and Multi-Age Complete Classroom Implementation Kit (P3 and P4 combined).
  • Each kit includes developmental guidelines, 30 checklists, wall charts, reproducible masters flash drive, and teacher’s manual.
  • Teacher’s manual provides an overview, explains each element of the system, gives step-by-step procedures, and offers practical solutions.
  • Summary reports replace conventional report cards; scores are "As Expected" or "Needs Development."
  • Standards-based Developmental Guidelines Performance Indicators result in a score of “Not Yet,” “In Progress,” or "Proficient."
